All the Way My Savior Leads Me

1. All the way my Savior leads me,
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my Guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.

2. All the way my Savior leads me,
Cheers each winding path I tread,
Gives me grace for every trial,
Feeds me with the living Bread.
Though my weary steps may falter
And my soul athirst may be,
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see;
Gushing from the Rock before me,
Lo! A spring of joy I see.

3. All the way my Savior leads me,
Oh, the fullness of His love!
Perfect rest to me is promised
In my Father’s house above.
When my spirit, clothed immortal,
Wings its flight to realms of day
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way;
This my song through endless ages:
Jesus led me all the way.

Words by:  Fanny Crosby

“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:  Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:  In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”
~Colossians 1:9-14

When Fanny wrote these words, she was expressing her own testimony of God’s guidance. Even her blindness, she realized, was part of His plan.
Her blindness stimulated other gifts, such as a phenomenal memory.  As a child, she memorized whole sections of the Bible. Years later, Fanny viewed her blindness as a special gift from God, believing He had given her a particular “soul-vision” which equipped her for a special work. “It was the best thing that could have happened to me,” she declared. “How in the world could I have lived such a helpful life had I not been blind?”

Though this hymn expressed Fanny Crosby’s lifelong testimony, it was prompted by a specific incident in 1874. One day she didn’t have enough money to pay her rent. Just as she committed the matter to God in prayer, a stranger appeared at her door and pressed a ten-dollar bill in her hand before disappearing. It was the very amount needed. That night she wrote the words to “All the Way My Savior Leads Me.”

Who does the Savior lead? Why does the Savior lead?
   Who? Those that will  follow Him
   Why? To bring glory to His name
“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.” Psalm 23:3

What does it take to follow?
*Numbers correlate with the verses of this hymn

“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Mark 16:24
1. faith - “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
(if you can see it, it is not faith)

2. trust – “O taste and see that the Lord is good:
blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Psalm 34:8
(only those trusting will know the goodness of the Lord)

3. belief – “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6
(only those that seek Him and believe that He is who He says He is can truly please Him)

What is the result of following the one who is leading?

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7 & 8

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

“In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.” Deuteronomy 30:16

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."  Jeremiah 29:11
